What is a Minor Scale?

A minor scale is a sequence of seven notes with a specific pattern of intervals. There are three types of minor scales:

  1. Natural minor: Follows the pattern W-H-W-W-H-W-W (whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step)
  2. Harmonic minor: Modifies the natural minor by raising the 7th note by a half step
  3. Melodic minor: Raises both the 6th and 7th notes ascending, but reverts to natural minor when descending

For example, the A natural minor scale (the relative minor of C major) consists of: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and back to A.
