Allegro was written by Nicolas Chédeville, which Chédeville published in Paris in 1737 as part of his Opus 13 set Il pastor fido, long misattributed to Antonio Vivaldi. The six Il pastor fido sonatas are Baroque chamber works for musette or other melody instrument with basso continuo, issued under Vivaldi’s name but later proven through notarial records and scholarly research to be by Chédeville. These sonatas, including Sonata No. 2 in C major (RV 55), have become a staple of Baroque repertoire for recorder, flute, oboe and violin and are frequently recorded and performed despite their complex history of attribution.
