Sodade was written by Armando Zeferino Soares, written in the 1950s as a Cape Verdean morna. Sodade is a slow morna that expresses longing and homesickness among Cape Verdean migrants, and was first performed by local singers before later recordings by artists such as Bonga. The song achieved international fame through Cesária Évora’s 1992 recording on her album Miss Perfumado, and has since become one of the most iconic and widely recognised songs from Cape Verde.
