by Hindemith
Three Easy Pieces - II. Langsam was written by Paul Hindemith, in 1938 as the second of his Drei leichte Stücke (Three Easy Pieces) for cello and piano. The set consists of short teaching pieces written in first position, and this central movement, marked "Langsam" (slow), provides a more lyrical contrast to the livelier outer movements. These pieces are widely used in cello pedagogy and graded exams and are regularly included in anthologies of Hindemith’s chamber works.
