by Jorge Ben
Mas Que Nada was written by Jorge Ben, written for his debut album Samba Esquema Novo and first released in Brazil in early 1963. The song is a samba‑based piece that mixes elements of samba rock and bossa nova, and quickly became Jorge Ben’s first major hit. Mas Que Nada went on to become a Brazilian standard, famously covered by Sérgio Mendes & Brasil ’66 and many others, was voted among the greatest Brazilian songs by Rolling Stone Brasil, and was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2013.
