Christianity, and religion in general, has influenced the development of musical genres. This is because people with the same faith worship together and music is a way to do this. It is therefore quite natural that songs and other works are now an integral part of religion.
In the early days of Christianity, Gregorian chants, liturgical songs (sang during Mass) and hymns were all ways of worshipping God. From the 16th century onwards, songs were no longer sung in Latin but in the vernacular. In the 19th century, the Revival movement led to the development of new styles. This was the case in the USA with spirituals and gospel music. Today, you can find almost any style of music in a Christian version: rock, hip-hop, punk, metal ... etc. Yes, Christian punk exists.
