Frederic Chopin was a master of Romantic music, a virtuoso on the piano and a musical poet. To this day, many consider his masterpieces to be some of the most important pieces of the Romantic period. He wrote music during the evolution of Romanticism from 1815 to 1848 - his work stands alongside contemporaries such as Robert Schumann and Felix Mendelssohn.
Frederic Chopin mainly composed music for the piano, in particular for solo piano. His mother was Polish, so his style was influenced by Polish folk music, as well as classical artists like Bach, Mozart and Schubert, and by the bel canto style of Italian opera. These elements formed a unique musical style which is characteristic of Chopin's work, and which is also important in the evolution of European music in general.
Frederic Chopin's music, such as the Nocturne No. 20 in C-sharp minor, Opus posth or the Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Opus 11 teaches every pianist important techniques which are crucial for playing. These include fingering, the use of pedals and musical expression on the piano.
