Elton John returns to the score of the new Lion King film

There are lots of projects involving Elton John in 2019.

First of all, Rocketman, the biopic of the artist’s life from his first success up to international recognition, showing in cinemas from May onwards.

Then, during July, we will discover the new version of the ultra-famous Walt Disney film The Lion King, whose flamboyant trailer has already made us dive back into Simba's world.

It’s difficult to imagine the re-make of a film of this scale without hearing again the music which made it so successful. Hans Zimmer, who composed the score of the 1994 animated version, will revise the score, accompanied by Elton John, who wrote “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”, and Beyoncé Knowles.

The latter two have worked together on two new hit songs from The Lion King by Jon Favreau entitled “Spirit” and “Never Too Late”. The first is sung by Beyoncé and the second by Elton John.

The film also contains all the songs from the original film, as well as a cover by “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by The Token. It’s great fun, therefore, to re-discover “The Story of Life”, “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”, “Hakuna Matata” and, of course, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”.

In 1995, the original version of “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” had won the Oscar for the best original song, as well as the Golden Globe for the best original song. A great performance!

The score of the re-make, which includes the Hans Zimmer score and songs by Elton John, will appear in digital and physical format in July 2019, almost at the same time as the film's release.

While we wait to enjoy the magical world of The Lion King and to see Nala, Mufasa, Timon and Pumba again, Tomplay is giving you the chance to play Elton John’s exquisite song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” whatever your instrument or level. Go to the Tomplay Shop to play “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”, accompanied by the professional orchestral recording!
