Astor Piazzolla was a master of the bandoneon and as a composer, his unique style revolutionised the traditional tango. He is often dubbed the founder of the nuevo tango, a development of the traditional tango with the addition of jazz and classical influences. The result was music which, contrary to its origins, was not primarily intended for dancing, but rather for listening.
Compositions such as Cafe 1930 or Libertango by Piazzolla clearly show how the artist broke boundaries and stepped outside of the norm. And he did so successfully: his works are much deeper, musically, than works by other composers.
