by Beethoven
String Quartet No. 1, Opus 18 - I. Allegro con brio was written by Ludwig van Beethoven, composed between 1798 and 1800 and published in 1801 as part of his Op. 18 set of six string quartets. String Quartet No. 1 in F major, Op. 18 No. 1, is an early quartet scored for two violins, viola and cello, dedicated along with the rest of the set to the Bohemian aristocrat Prince Joseph Franz von Lobkowitz. The first movement Allegro con brio has become a staple of the string quartet repertoire and is frequently performed as an example of Beethoven’s emerging individual voice within the classical style.
