Studio Ghibli has released some of the greatest anime films of all time. Through beautifully hand-crafted drawings and fairy tales, this Japanese animation studio has created cinematic works of art which are truly timeless. Along with the incredible visuals of Studio Ghibli films, the music is just as amazing.
Joe Hisaishi has regularly worked on the music for many well-known Studio Ghibli films, especially for director Hayao Miyazaki. For example, the music for Princess Mononoke by Joe Hisaishi perfectly captures the sombre yet incredibly beautiful atmosphere of the story. Likewise, the melody to My Neighbor Totoro by Joe Hisaishi illustrates the innocent nature and emotions of the plot.
Miyazaki and Hisaishi are a top-tier duo with complementary artistic talent. Hisaishi’s music is generally made up of different styles, from minimalist melodies to Japanese classical music; Miyazaki tackles an equally wide range of themes in his stories, such as ecologism, pacifism, and love and family - all of which are brought to life not only through stunning imagery but also through music.
