La Complainte de la Butte is a French love song set in Montmartre, written for the soundtrack of the film and first sung on screen (with Cora Vaucaire’s voice) by the character Esther in the movie. It has since become a classic of French chanson and of songs about Paris, often covered by other artists and featured in later films and recordings.
