Nina Simone Sheet Music
About Nina Simone
Nina Simone (1933-2003) established herself as an exceptional musician, transcending the boundaries between jazz, blues, folk and classical music. Trained as a classical pianist, she developed an incomparable vocal and musical style, combining technical virtuosity and expressiveness. Her unique style is the result of classical training enriched by gospel, jazz and African-American traditions. Nina Simone was influenced by Bach, blues and the protest music of the 1960s. Her personal interpretations of standards and her original compositions such as ‘Mississippi Goddam’ left their mark on her era. Although often categorised as a jazz singer, she goes far beyond conventional classifications. Her influence on the 20th century is fundamental, as much for her activism as for her talent as an artist. Her career has had its ups and downs, but she has always maintained absolute artistic integrity. Her music continues to inspire contemporary artists, testifying to her ability to combine musical excellence with social commitment.
