Alan Menken Sheet Music
About Alan Menken
American composer Alan Menken was born into a middle-class family in New York in 1949. He showed a precocious talent for music, playing piano and guitar from an early age. After studying at Berklee College of Music, he began his career composing for off-Broadway theatre. He enjoyed great success with the musical ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, which attracted the attention of Disney. Menken then became one of the most important composers of the ‘Disney Renaissance’, creating the soundtracks to classic animated films such as ‘The Little Mermaid’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Aladdin’. He skilfully blends the sounds of Broadway, pop and classical music to write songs that resonate with a wide audience. Menken has collaborated with many talented songwriters, including Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. Over the course of his career, he has won eight Oscars, making him one of the most awarded composers in Hollywood history. Although best known for his work at Disney, Menken has also composed for Broadway theatre and other film projects. Among his recent successes is the score for the film Enchanted (2007), which perfectly illustrates his talent for revisiting the style of musical fairy tales. Menken's influence on the music of animated films and modern musicals is immense, and there is no doubt that his melodies will continue to enchant future generations.
