About Gerry Rafferty
The Scottish musician Gerry Rafferty, active from the 1960s until the 2000s, has established himself as a major singer-songwriter in British rock. After his debut with the band Stealers Wheel and their hit ‘Stuck in the Middle with You’ (1972), he enjoyed huge solo success with ‘Baker Street’ (1978). His style, influenced by Scottish folk music, 60s rock and blues, is a blend of rock, folk and pop with complex arrangements and introspective lyrics. His collaboration with producer Hugh Murphy has helped shape the originality of his compositions. Although often associated with his hits of the 70s, Gerry Rafferty has continued to produce personal and searching music throughout his career. His impact on British pop-rock is significant, with songs that transcend their era. Marked by difficult periods in his life, he maintained remarkable artistic integrity until his death in 2011. His sophisticated musical arrangements continue to influence artists around the world today.
