About James Horner
American composer James Horner (1953-2025), born in Los Angeles to Jewish immigrant parents, began his musical career as a concert pianist before turning to composing for the cinema. Despite modest beginnings on low-budget films, he quickly established himself as one of Hollywood's most talented and prolific film music composers. Horner is best known for his epic scores for films such as ‘Titanic’, ‘Avatar’ and ‘Braveheart’. His unique style blends elements of classical music, electronic music and ethnic sounds, creating rich and evocative soundscapes. He has collaborated with many renowned directors, including James Cameron and Ron Howard. Horner has won two Oscars and numerous other awards during his career, testifying to his lasting impact on the film industry. Although primarily associated with film music, he has also composed concert works and ballets. The soundtrack to the film ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (2012), one of his last compositions, illustrates his ability to adapt his style to contemporary genres while retaining his distinctive musical signature. Tragically killed in a plane crash in 2015, Horner leaves behind an exceptional body of work in the world of film music, and his compositions continue to move and inspire listeners around the world.
