Bill Withers Sheet Music
About Bill Withers
American singer-songwriter Bill Withers (1938-2020) was born into a working-class family in West Virginia. He started his career relatively late, after serving in the navy for nine years. Despite this late start, his natural talent for songwriting and his warm, soulful voice soon propelled him to the top of the charts. Withers is known for his powerful and engaging songs, fusing soul, folk and funk in a unique style. He has written many timeless classics such as ‘Lean on Me’, ‘Ain't No Sunshine’ and ‘Just the Two of Us’. His style is characterised by apparent simplicity, emotional depth and irresistible grooves. Withers has collaborated with many renowned artists and influenced generations of musicians in a variety of genres. Although his active career in the music industry was relatively short, his impact was profound and lasting. One of his last works, the album ‘Watching You Watching Me’ (1985), shows his evolution towards more sophisticated composition while retaining the authenticity that has always characterised his music. Despite his early retirement from the music industry, Withers' influence on soul, R&B and popular music remains considerable, with his songs continuing to touch and inspire new generations.
