by ABBA
Eagle was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, recorded in June 1977 for ABBA’s fifth studio album ABBA: The Album and issued as a single in selected territories on 2 May 1978. The track is a long, atmospheric pop‑rock song with progressive and art‑rock influences, featuring lead vocals by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni‑Frid Lyngstad and opening ABBA: The Album. Although “Eagle” had only moderate chart success, reaching the top ten in countries such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland and West Germany, it has since attracted critical praise as one of ABBA’s more distinctive and ambitious recordings and was also used in a fantasy sequence in the film ABBA: The Movie.
