by Eric Clapton
Layla was written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon, written in 1970 and first released that year on Derek and the Dominos’ album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. Layla is a two-part blues‑rock song inspired in part by the Persian love story of Layla and Majnun and by Clapton’s unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, combining a guitar‑driven opening section with a contrasting piano coda. Although it was only a modest hit on its initial single release, Layla later became one of Clapton’s signature songs, frequently cited among the greatest rock tracks and revived in his acclaimed acoustic version on MTV Unplugged in 1992.
