by de Falla
La vida breve - Danse espagnole No. 1 was written by Manuel de Falla, composed in 1904–1905 as part of his two-act opera La vida breve, which later received its first staging in French in Nice in 1913. La vida breve - Danse espagnole No. 1, also known as Danza española No. 1, is an orchestral dance based on Andalusian and flamenco idioms that appears in Act II of the opera and has been arranged for many different instrumental combinations. This Spanish Dance No. 1 has become one of Falla’s most popular pieces, frequently performed as a standalone concert work and widely recorded in versions such as the famous violin arrangement by Fritz Kreisler.
