L'Assasymphonie was written by Jean-Pierre Pilot, Olivier Schultheis, William Rousseau, Dove Attia, Rodrigue Janois, Vincent Baguian, and created in 2009 for the French musical Mozart, l'opéra rock. In the show it functions as a dramatic rock ballad in which Salieri expresses his jealousy and inner turmoil in response to Mozart's genius. Issued as a single from the cast recordings, it became one of the musical's best‑known numbers and was honored with the NRJ Music Award for French Song of the Year.
