by Genesis
Behind the Lines was written by Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford, and first appeared in 1980 on Genesis’s album Duke. The track opens the album with a driving, progressive rock sound and features prominent keyboard work by Tony Banks and energetic vocals by Phil Collins. Although not released as a single, it has been noted in reviews as a key statement of Genesis’s transition from their 1970s progressive style toward a more streamlined 1980s sound, and the song was later reworked by Collins for his solo album Face Value.
