by Iradier
La Paloma was written by Sebastián Iradier, composed around 1861 after a visit to Cuba. La Paloma is a habanera for voice and accompaniment by the Spanish Basque composer Sebastián Iradier, often described as a “Mexican song” in early editions despite its Spanish authorship. It became extraordinarily popular in Spain and throughout the Americas, inspiring countless arrangements and recordings, and is regarded as one of the most frequently recorded songs in the history of popular music.
