by The Meters
Cissy Strut was written by Art Neville, Zigaboo Modeliste, Leo Nocentelli and George Porter Jr., released in 1969 as a funk instrumental single by The Meters. The tune appeared on their self‑titled debut album and showcases the band’s stripped‑down New Orleans funk groove built from organ, guitar, bass and drums. “Cissy Strut” reached No. 4 on the U.S. R&B chart and No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011, and has since become a widely covered funk standard used in films, television and popular culture.
