John Coltrane Sheet Music
About John Coltrane
Saxophonist John Coltrane (1926-1967) established himself as one of the most innovative jazz figures of the 1950s. After making his debut alongside Miles Davis, notably on the legendary ‘Kind of Blue’ album (1959), he developed a style that transformed modern jazz. His unique approach combines exceptional technical mastery with deep spirituality. Coltrane was influenced by bebop, Indian classical music and African music. His collaboration with pianist McCoy Tyner and drummer Elvin Jones gave birth to a legendary quartet. Although often associated with the hard bop of the 50s, Coltrane constantly moved towards more avant-garde horizons. His impact on jazz was immense, with albums such as ‘A Love Supreme’ and ‘Giant Steps’ redefining the boundaries of the genre. Until his untimely death in 1967, he never stopped exploring new musical forms. He continues to inspire generations of musicians, and his harmonic innovations, known as ‘Coltrane changes’, are studied the world over.
