Henry Mancini Sheet Music
About Henry Mancini
American composer Henry Mancini (1924-1994), born of Italian immigrant parents, grew up during the Great Depression. Despite his modest beginnings, his music-loving father encouraged him to study the piano and flute from an early age. After serving in the army during the Second World War, Mancini began his career arranging music for the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He went on to make a name for himself in Hollywood, composing for film and television. Mancini is famous for such well-known themes as ‘The Pink Panther’ and ‘Moon River’ from the film ‘Breakfast at Tiffany's’. He worked with many directors and artists, including Blake Edwards and Audrey Hepburn, and won four Oscars and twenty Grammy Awards. Although mainly associated with film music, he also composed concertos and symphonic pieces. The soundtrack to the film ‘Victor/Victoria’ (1982) is one of his last compositions; it illustrates his talent for adapting his style to the changing times, while retaining his unique musical signature which fuses jazz, pop and orchestral music. Mancini's influence on film music and popular culture is essential, and his melodies are still just as popular today.
