Nino Rota Sheet Music
About Nino Rota
The Italian composer Nino Rota (1911-1979) was born into a family of musicians in Milan. He revealed his exceptional precocious talent by composing an oratorio at the age of 11. Despite this promising start, it was in film music that he found his true calling, becoming one of the most influential soundtrack composers of the 20th century. Nino Rota is best known for his collaboration with directors Federico Fellini and Francis Ford Coppola, composing memorable soundtracks for films such as ‘La Dolce Vita’, ‘8½’ and ‘The Godfather’. His unique musical style blends classical influences, jazz and popular Italian music, with unforgettable melodies that are inseparable from the images on screen. He has composed for over 150 films during his career, in addition to his concert works which include operas, ballets and symphonic works. He has collaborated with many renowned filmmakers and has influenced generations of film composers. Although best known for his soundtracks, Nino Rota was also an accomplished composer of classical music. One of his last works, Cello Concerto No. 2 (1977), demonstrates his mastery of classical form while retaining the lyrical melody characteristic of his style. Nino Rota's influence on film music and popular culture in general remains considerable, with his compositions continuing to be recognised and appreciated far beyond the cinematic context.
