Disney Sheet Music

For decades, Disney has touched the lives of millions of people. The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy O. Disney. Since the company began, they have produced hundreds of Disney films.

One of the most important elements in each Disney film is, of course, the music. The magic of Disney music is hard to put into words because it's simply that: magic. Each piece of music is specifically composed for a film, which makes it unique. According to Alan Menken, a legendary Disney composer, the music comes before anything else: the studio provides a basic story idea to the musical dramatists (i.e. the songwriters) who then develop a musical style and theme around it. The script is only written after this process!

Disney music covers both classical and popular music. The most famous Disney film with classical music is Fantasia (1940), a movie divided into eight sections, each with a different piece of classical music. Other Disney films with classical music include Sleeping Beauty (1959) and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (1940). More modern Disney animations now have composers who write whole new pieces specifically for the film plot. For example, composer Lin-Manuel Miranda was hired to write the music for the 2021 film  . The film is based in Colombia so Miranda wrote a soundtrack that was heavily based on Latin American music.
