by Simple Minds
Someone Somewhere in Summertime was written by Charlie Burchill, Derek Forbes, Jim Kerr and Michael MacNeil, released on 5 November 1982 as the third single from Simple Minds’ album New Gold Dream (81–82–83–84). The song is a new wave track that opens the album, featuring atmospheric guitars and synths typical of Simple Minds’ early‑1980s sound. Although Someone Somewhere in Summertime only reached the lower end of the UK Top 40, it became a fan favourite and is regularly cited as one of Simple Minds’ classic songs, remaining in their live repertoire and appearing on later compilations.
