Altair was written by Hale A. VanderCook. Altair is a cornet solo with piano or band accompaniment by American composer and band educator Hale A. VanderCook, belonging to his series of student‑level characteristic pieces often grouped under themes such as stars. Like many of VanderCook’s cornet solos, it remains in use as pedagogical repertoire for developing brass players and appears on school solo and ensemble lists.
